Day 1: Arrival to Erfurt
Your tour leads to Erfurt, the capital city of the state of Thuringia (Thüringen) located in the "green heart of Germany". Erfurt has grown from being a small but thriving center for commerce at the intersection of medieval trading routes to becoming an important commercial center. Erfurt also has a major university. The city's cultural, intellectual and economic dominance drew great personalities such as Luther (Augustinian Monastery), Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland, Czar Alexander and Napoleon . You'll spend the night in Erfurt.

Day 2: Erfurt - Weimar, 25 km
Today's ride starts by crossing the "Krämerbrücke" a 120m long bridge with 32 houses sitting on it. Wealthy patrician houses and lovingly maintained half-timbered houses form a picture postcard site. Take time to notice the monumental Mariendom and Severi church. Say goodbye to Erfurt and embrace a completely different landscape. Quaint villages with cozy beer gardens entice you to try out various delicacies from the local cuisine. You'll enjoy the designated bike path called Thüringer Städteradweg to the town of Weimar. Here you'll see museums and monuments dedicated to people such as Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland, Lucas Cranach, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Franz Liszt. Today Weimar is a pulsating center of arts and science.

Day 3: Weimar - Loop Tour by train to Jena, 36 - 67 km
Follow the footsteps of poets and philosophy. A short train ride to Jena should be followed by a sightseeing tour of this university town. Many a celebrity lectured at the university, which was founded in 1558. Goethe was one of the supporters and Schiller lectured here. Jena also possesses the oldest planetarium of the world. Continue your bike ride along the Saale-river cycle path through varied and geologically interesting country. You'll pass fortresses, castles, churches and historic mills. Pedal along the river through the wine-growing area of Thuringia. As you follow quiet minor roads and paved bike paths, you'll change to the Ilm Valley cycle path right into the heart of Thuringia. Take time to stop in towns such as Apolda, Bad Sulza or Domburg. Overnight in Weimar.

Day 4: Weimar - Arnstadt, 33- 63 km
Bike along the Ilm Valley bike path until you reach the Thüringer Forest. Along the trail, you will see lovely small villages, quiet trails along the river and farmers working in the countryside. Continue on the Städteradweg bike path to Arnstadt, an historic old town with lovely atmosphere. Rest your body tonight in the charming town of Arnstadt.

Day 5: Arnstadt - Eisenach, 28 -65 km
The next cycle day follows the City bike path, slightly undulating back to Eisenach. You can't miss the intimidating Castle Friedenstein, the largest early baroque castle of Germany. The oldest baroque theatre of Europe can be found in the west tower. The castle museum exhibits a substantial collection of porcelain and a picture gallery. A further attraction of the historic old town is a beautiful ensemble of town houses around the main market square and the historic town hall, which you should not miss out. As promised, wherever you go, Thuringia's cuisine and hospitality are there. Do not miss the famous dumplings and sausages before spending the night in Eisenach!

Day 6: Eisenach - Mühlhausen, 58 - 74 km
Your ride begins on the Werra-Cycle path. Along the river you'll bike through varied landscapes such as idyllic river meadows, forests and sites of cultural heritage. The ride starts with the wild and idyllic Werra breakthrough - a region with an exceptional variety of orchids. In Trettfurt, you'll see the . Normannstein Forest towers. Following the trail gets you to Mühlhausen, the city of gates and churches, with 59 spires. Your tour ends with a stay in your charming hotel in Muhlhausen.

Day 7: Mühlhausen - Erfurt, 49 - 69 km.
Today you'll follow the river bike trail of Unstrut, passing picturesque small villages. Afterwards you will reach the city of Bad Langensalza, with its well-preserved city wall. Visit the spectacular rose garden, lush botanical garden and Japanese garden. Your day ends by following the Gera cycle path to Erfurt, capital of Thuringia. This city is known for being one of Germany's best maintained medieval towns.

Day 8: Departure Erfurt
Time to leave Erfurt and think about the great time you had exploring the area!
