Start in Berchtesgaden, known for its historic castle and the fascinating Salt Mine. Continue to Weißbach, where the impressive Seisenberg Gorge showcases the power of water and rock. The majestic Hochkönig mountain dominates the region, while the picturesque villages of Dienten and Mühlbach captivate with their alpine charm and warm hospitality. A beautiful trail leads you up to the former miner's hut and on over an alpine pasture into the Berchtesgaden National Park. From there, continue down to the Saalach Valley. Along the way, enjoy views of the impressive Seisenberg Gorge. Enjoy your hotel stay in Weissenbach. . 18.5 km to walk and appr. 5.5 hours walking time, +550 meters, -500 meters Day 3: Weißenbach - Transfer Hinterthal - Alpine pasture in the Grass Mountains - Dienten Start the day with a transfer to the edge of the Grass Mountain where the route begins, heading up to alpine pastures. It's possible to walk up a short summit leading to beautiful views of the Alps and glaciers. The route ends by passing wooden mountain huts as you walk downwards to your hotel in the mountain village of Dienten. . 12.5 km to walk and appr. 5 hours walking time, +930 meters, -750 meters Day 4: Dienten - Mühlbach You are in for a treat as you hike through one of the most beautiful alpine pasture trails in Austria. Take plenty of pictures as you hike along the steep walls of the Hochkönig. Each part of the trail looks like something out of a fairy tale as you pass chalets with colorful flowers and farmers working in the fields. Overnight in a mountain hotel in Muhlbach. . 14,5 - 18,5 km to walk and appr. 5,5 hours walking time, +640 meters, -210 meters Day 5: After all that hiking, it's time to relax and stroll around the town of Mühlbach Your local guest card lets you ride the bus for free, so hop on and explore the area! Day 6 - Mühlbach - Arthurhaus - Werfen - Train to Golling This morning, take the bus uphill to Arthurhaus. This gets you ready to walk downhill to the Salzach Valley. The path winds gently downhill towards the rugged Hohenwerfen fortress. Decide if you want to walk up the castle hill to see the bird-of-prey flight demonstrations, or a historic collection of weapons. From there, enjoy a scenic train ride to your hotel in Golling. . 13.5 km to walk and appr. 4.5 hours walking time, +120 meters, -950 meters Day 7: Golling - Mount Jenner - Cable car to Lake Königssee Leave your hotel and walk up to the peak of Jenner Mountain with a panoramic view of the whole area. A beautiful trail leads you through the former Arch Bishop hunting valley to the "wall". Steep stone walls left, right and in front of you. You may not see the trail at first but it leads up to alpine pastures and the frontier of Austria and Germany. The scenery is spectacular, plus you'll enjoy a very comfortable ride down into the valley by cable car. Keep your eyes open to see Hitler's Eagle's Nest on your right. . 15 km to walk and appr. 6,5 hours walking time, +1320 meters, -90 meters Day 8: Departure from Berchtesgaden/Schönau unless you decide to extend your stay in Lake Königssee!
